The “7th China International Satcom 2006” held in Hangzhou

The “7th China International Satcom 2006” was held in Hangzhou during Oct.17-19, 2006, organized by China Users’ Association for Satellite Communications, Broadcasting & Television, supported by Secretariat of Asia-Pacific Multilateral Cooperation in Space Technology and Applications (AP-MCSTA) and co-organized by Zhejiang Hengtong Satellite Television Co. Ltd, sponsored by Nanjing Panda Electronics Group, Asia Satellite Telecommunications Co. Ltd. and China Satellite Communications Corporation. It also received support from China National Space Administration (CNSA), the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), China Aerospace Science and Technology (CASC) and Radio & Television Bureau of Zhejiang Province. The symposium was strongly supported by the Ministry of Information Industry.

The theme of this symposium is “promoting development of satellite applications through independent innovation”. This symposium functioned as a platform for the exchanging views and information for the costumers both at home and abroad,. The governmental departments, R&D and educational institutions, operators, users, medium and experts discussed on the development trend and market prospects of satellite communications, broadcasting and television, as well as the other space applications; and it was also a platform to show new research results and products The direct-broadcast satellite technology and its application, the broadband satellite communication technology, was the priority topics of this symposium.

At the opening ceremony, the representative from the State Administration of Radio, Film & TV made a key note speech, introducing the development strategy for China satellite system and applications under the guideline of independent innovation. Representatives from Asia Satellite Telecommunications Co., Ltd, National Remote Sensing Center of China, China Traffic Information Technology Research and Development Center, Tsinghua University, National Disaster Reduction Center of China introduced their applications, development status and trends of China’s satellite systems in respective areas.

Representative from CNSA made a report on the Strategy for China’s space activities and the following principles would be carried out, such as independent innovation, technological breakthroughs, satellite application and space industrialization, space science research and exploration support, taking the domestic and international market and resources into consideration on the whole and international cooperation. The report also reviewed the main achievements of China’s space activities during the past five years and the future plans of China. The report especially addressed the priority cooperation areas in the field of space as well as the major projects.

Participants from National Remote Sensing Center of China under Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), Telecommunications Administration of Ministry of Information Industry, Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization under MOST and China Association of Remote Sensing Application attended the symposium.

14 students from the “9-Month Master Program Training Course on Space Technology Applications for Asia-Pacific Region”, which supported by CNSA and  the Secretariat of AP-MCSTA, attended the symposium and exchanged views with other participants.
