[CNSA] During October 20-21, China-Canada space cooperation forum was held in Beijing. President of Canadian Space Agency Mr. Mark Garneau led a 25-person-delegation, including industry representatives, participated in the forum.
Mr. Sun Laiyan, Administrator of CNSA delivered remarks in the opening, welcoming Mr. Mark Garneau and his delegation, and proposed to extensively explore the potentials to cooperate in the areas of space technology, space application and space science. Mr. Sun Laiyan pointed out that space exploration and peaceful utilization is a complicated, difficult and high-risk undertaking and would not achieve substantial success by one or two nations. Thus international cooperation is an effective approach for the promoting space science, technology and application for the benefit of human society. Therefore, CNSA shall continue to adhere to the principle of “mutual respect, mutual benefit, peaceful use and common development" and further strengthen space cooperation with Canada and nations throughout the world for the peaceful us of space and expanding our knowledge of the universe so as to provide impetus to social progress and upgrading peoples living standard.
Both head of space agencies presented the current space development and experts from both side introduced space science and space application projects and discussed on commonly interested cooperative areas.
China and Canada established cooperative relationship in 1996 by the signing of a space MOU between two agencies. The MOU was renewed in February 2001 when the Canadian Priminister lead the Team Canada delegation visited China. The Forum both sides held this time paved the way for substantial cooperation between the two countries in peaceful use of outer space.
