Sun Laiyan visits SAST

Sun Laiyan, administrator of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), paid a working visit to Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST) on February 3-4, 2009. He was accompanied by Yuan Jiajun, vice president of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).

During the visit, Sun was briefed on the SAST’s latest progress in the research and development of Mars probe. He stressed great significance of the project, and said all participating departments had attached great importance to the R&D work.

Sun said the R&D team now had better and more comprehensive understanding of the work, as well as a clearer vision of technical challenges. He expressed the hope that the team could better manage and coordinate the R&D schedule, and made a scientific plan. He said particular experiments and tests must be done on key equipment and technical problems, in order to ensure the reliability of the probe and the success of the entire project.

Sun also urged the team to fully utilize opportunities of international cooperation to improve the level of R&D.
