First Announcement for 2013 APSCO Space Law & Policy Forum

  With the development of space technology and its applications, more space activities have been carried out by space faring counties in the world. Those space activities are faced with a series of legal issues. Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO), as the Multilateral Inter-governmental Organization, has the indispensable duty not only to promote the regional space cooperation activities, but also to enhance the capacity building of the Member States in space law and the research of related legal issues and policy.

  For this purpose, the Secretariat of APSCO is going to organize a “2013 APSCO Space Law & Policy Forum” in Beijing, China from 26 to 28 June 2013, which is jointly organized with Chinese Institutions. Through this Forum, the participants can share the development of their national space laws and policies, and exchange views on legal issues related with national/regional space activities. In this connection, APSCO Secretariat would like to invite participants from APSCO Member States, as well as other countries in Asia-Pacific region to share your profound experiences as well as your valuable thoughts and insights in this Forum.

  Main Themes

  a. Space Legislation and Mechanisms for Regional Space Cooperation;b. International/Regional Cooperation on Space Law & Policy;c. Recommendations on Establishment of the APSCO Research Center for Space Law & Policy.

  Sponsorship of the ForumThe Secretariat of APSCO will sponsor one participant, nominated by the Member States of APSCO, will be reimbursed the direct economic class round trip air ticket from their country to Beijing and also be provided accommodation, local transportation and hospitality during the event, who will make the presentation about his/her National Space Law System and Policy or related topic to Main Themes of the Forum. More participants from Member States or other countries in Asia-Pacific Region are encouraged to attend this Forum by their own expense/sponsorship.

  Call for PapersParticipants who wish to present paper(s) are invited to send extended abstracts of one page in English, including title, authors’ names and affiliations, email and mailing addresses. The authors are also required to send their resume along with the abstract(s). Accepted abstracts will be printed in the “Abstract Book” and issued to the attendees at the Forum.
  PresentationPresentations are limited to 20 minutes, including 5 minutes’ questions and answers session. Multimedia and computer will be available to make presentations.

  LanguageEnglish is the official language for the Forum. No interpretation service will be provided.

  RegistrationAll participants shall fill in the Registration Form attached herewith and send by facsimile or e-mail to the Secretariat of APSCO to the Contact Person along with the abstracts.

  The VenueThe Forum will be held in Beijing, China. It is the largest and most modern city of China and presents an interesting and colorful combination of the old and new. Beijing is the political, economic, cultural and educational center of the nation as well as China's most important center for international trade and communications.   Room ReservationAPSCO will make the hotel room reservation for all participants according to the Registration Form by 24 May 2013.

  Visa ApplicationAPSCO, the local organizer, will provide the formal invitation letter to all participants for their visa application/internal procedure as received Registration Form from the interested participants.

  TransportationAPSCO will provide transportation for all participants between the airport and hotel on their arrival and departure.
